One of the left’s favorite attacks on the Republican Party is that it is the party of old white people, devoid of diversity and probably racist.
If you were watching MSNBC’s coverage of the Republican National Convention in Tampa on Tuesday night, you might believe those assertions, since missing from the coverage was nearly every ethnic minority that spoke during Tuesday’s festivities.
In lieu of airing speeches from former Democratic Rep. Artur Davis, a black American; Mia Love, a black candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives from Utah; and Texas senatorial hopeful Ted Cruz, a Latino American, MSNBC opted to show commentary anchored by Rachel Maddow from Rev. Al Sharpton, Ed Schultz, Chris Matthews, Chris Hayes and Steve Schmidt.
Ludmya “Mia” Bourdeau Love is the mayor of Saratoga Springs, Utah, and the Republican Party 2012 nominee in Utah’s 4th congressional district. She will face six-term incumbent Democratic Representative Jim Matheson for the seat in November 2012.
Davis was an early supporter of Barack Obama‘s 2008 bid for the presidency, and one of the national co-chairs for Obama’s 2008 campaign. He changed his party affiliation from the Democratic to the Republican Party in 2012.
He’s not a graduate of Columbia University. He’s not a graduate of Harvard. He wasn’t selected as the President of the Harvard Law Review. He didn’t get a special free quota scholarship ride to any prestigious university and, instead, had to work his way through Miami University of Ohio. For God’s sake the man drove the Oscar Mayer Wiener Truck one summer and waited tables another!
