James Watkins, candidate for the 1st Congressional District
As you know, James Watkins ran a very strong campaign against Jay Inslee in the last election. James has announced his candidacy for this seat in the 2012 election, and will be speaking this evening on how we can reach out to non-traditional Republican voters. James is a great speaker, so please come and show your support for his campaign to move this congressional seat to the conservative side of the aisle. Read more »
Civic Literacy
When our group started meeting back in April of 2009, Roger brought a copy of the Constitution for each attendee. He highlighted Article I Section 8: Powers of Congress (enumerated in 17 paragraphs) and the tenth Amendment : ”The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people. ”
This was an eye opener to me as I can’t remember if I ever read the Constitution prior to this meeting. I wasn’t alone and so when we had a candidates’ forum last year, I handed out a pocketbook copy of the Constitution to all attendees.
Last week, on January 6th, members of the new Republican-led House of Representatives took part in an unusual event: a reading of the U.S. Constitution on the floor of the chamber. This should happen every year!
From Hotair:
Elected officials know less about the Constitution than the public. So claims the Intercollegiate Studies Institute, which just concluded a five-year study on the American public’s knowledge of its foundational legal document. The bad news: the general public gets an F, with just a 54% average on the 33-question civics test. The worse news: those who identified themselves as public officeholders scored an average of five points worse than the general public.
Take the quiz yourself and see if you need a remedial civics class!
Many of you enjoyed a great Christmas party with the Shoreline Caucus earlier this month, and if you missed it, you missed a great time and some great Christmas treats! Now, join us for the first Shoreline Caucus meeting of the new year, on Thursday evening, January 20th, at 7 PM. We’ll be in the Innis Arden Clubhouse, at:
1430 N.W. 188th
Shoreline, WA 98177
Agenda:
Gary Gagliardi – Nine Next Steps for Conservatives in District 32
Lisa Thwing – Influencing the Republican Party
Steve Beren – Featured Speaker – Emerging Trends from the 2010 Elections
This will be a great meeting with a lot of interesting info (and as always, some great refreshments), so I hope you’ll join us as we prepare for the next campaign season.
New Beginnings
Over the last couple of months, I’ve had the privilege of attending to my father and mother-in-law, both of whom recently passed away. Today I’m starting to catch up on all the wonderful contributions my friends have been making during this time. Happy New Year!
Post Election Musings
The election has finally come and gone, and while we didn’t get everything we were hoping for, things look a lot better than they have for the past couple of years. That took a lot of work on everyone’s part, and it’s certainly worth a celebration!
But, we didn’t get all we worked so hard for – Patty Murray, Jay Inslee and others are still making mischief in congress, many of our state legislators are still solidly on the side of tax and spend, and even if this election goes for Dino Rossi, we still have a very liberal US Senator in Maria Cantwell. And of course there’s Barack Obama.
So where do we go from here as tea party supporters? Can we sit back and congratulate ourselves on a job well done, then take a year off until it’s time to start ramping up for the next election? Read more »
Candidates:
Dino Rossi – YES
James Watkins – YES
Judge Jim Johnson – YES
Judge Richard Sanders – YES
David Baker – YES
Dr. Art Coday – YES
Gary Gagliardi – YES
Ballot Initiatives:
Initiative Measure No. 1053 – Vote YES
This measure would restate existing statutory requirements that legislative actions raising taxes must be approved by two-thirds legislative majorities or receive voter approval, and that new or increased fees require majority legislative approval.
- The legislature has demonstrated that spending is their default choice. This measure makes it more difficult to raise taxes, insuring that spending will be limited, except for programs on which a supermajority can agree.

Meeting September 21st
Please plan to join the Shoreline Caucus next Tuesday evening for a very interesting presentation by Shahram Hadian, Primary candidate in the 44th Leg. District and, and Kerry Hooks, Act! for America.
Shahram was born in Iran and, now an American citizen, serves as pastor of Christ the King Community Church in Lynnwood. Act! for America was founded by Brigitte Gabrielle, a noted national speaker, and together Shahram and Kerry will give us a compelling presentation on the real and very long-term danger of radical Islam – that of using our own legislators and laws to move our country to resemble England, France, the Netherlands, and other countries where Islamic law plays a strong and increasing role in those countries’ governance.
Their message is clear – with the election approaching, we must elect legislators who respect all individuals and faiths, but who clearly see the long-term danger posed by Islam, and who are willing to stand up to political correctness and work for the Founders’ vision of America.
Please join us next Tuesday evening, September 21st, for this special presentation:
