The Tenth Amendment: State Sovereignty
Prior to this year, everything I knew about our constitution I learned a long time ago when I was in school. Since Obama was elected, I’ve gained a new appreciation for liberty under the constitution. Unlike the 2,000 paged healthcare bill, the constitution is concise and to the point. Article I section 8, grants 17 unique, discrete powers to the Federal Government (i.e. to coin money, to establish a uniform Rule of Naturalization, to provide for organizing, arming, and disciplining the Militia and so on). Everything else is left up to the States.
The Federal Government has grown much larger than our founding fathers intended. The 10th amendment (State Sovereignty) is a way to push back big government:
The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people Read more »
A Message from Liberty Belle
The Seattle Sons & Daughters of Liberty:
A Seattle Action Network
Keep the Pressure ON.
This is a message from some fellow tea partiers. It is good advice so I am reprinting most of it here.
One of our messages over the next week needs to be No Vote for Cloture. We have learned from one health care expert, there are 13 Senators that we have the possibility of turning and voting NO! Of these 13 Senators, two are up for reelection in 2010. The time has come for us to target and pressure these 13 Senators! Will you do your part to help convince them that this government takeover of health care is not good for the American people? You can do your part and stand shoulder to shoulder with other Patriots this week by applying pressure to these 13 Senators.
We have made this easy for you. We have broken the country into five regions and the 13 Senators into five groups. Each day, you call and email the group of Senators that is assigned to your region of the country. This way, all 13 Senators will have a constant barrage of calls and emails all week. We need to make sure they feel the pressure daily.
All of the contact information is listed below the chart. It has been highly recommended that we target the Senators’ local district offices when calling, as the local offices are not used to getting pressure like the DC offices. Remember these NO and YES points below: Read more »
This is from WA-Patriot-HUB– Read Gingrich’s link at the bottom for a historical perspective of filibuster and reconciliation.
AN ONLINE PETITION TO OUR 2 WA SENATORS
You can read and sign this Petition at: www.grievance.epetitions.net . The process is very simple and requires only your name and email address. Only your name is publicly displayed, NOT your email address.
The Petition relates to requesting our Senators NOT to support Harry Reid’s announced intent to apply an arcane Senate rule (“Reconciliation”) to achieve passage of the Administration’s health care Legislation. The rule treacherously ignores the Filibuster process so as to enable passage by simple majority vote of this highly partisan legislation. But the Filibuster process is a longstanding part of the Senate’s rules and is aligned with the Consitutional intent that the Senate be a seriously deliberative body, not rushed into foolish judgments. You can read some of Newt Gingrich’s views on this matter at: http://www.humanevent…![]()

Let’s level the playing field
This from John and Suzanne:
It took me less than a minute to sign up to require our congressmen and senators to drink at the same trough!!!!!!!!!!!! Three cheers for Congressman John Fleming of Louisiana! If the site is busy, try again later….Congressman John Fleming (Louisiana physician) has proposed an amendment that would require congressmen and senators to take the same healthcare plan they force on us (under proposed legislation they are curiously exempt). Congressman Fleming is encouraging people to go on his Website and sign his petition (very simple – just first, last and email).
I have immediately done just that at: http://fleming.house.gov/ . Please urge as many people as you can to do the same!
If Congress forces this on the American people, the Congressmen should have to accept the same level of health care for themselves and their families.

Jay Inslee’s “Townhall”
Seeing what’s happening across the country to his fellow congressmen and women, our Congressman Inslee is opting to have phone townhall meeting instead. He controls who he speaks to, for how long, and doesn’t have to look into the faces of his constituents when they call him on his personally written Cap and Trade (Tax) Bill which he proudly takes credit for writing. This is OUR congressman! He needs replacing!

Join my next telephone town-hall meeting August 3, 2009 Dear Mrs. Peterson, Due to the popularity of last week’s telephone town hall regarding health care reforms currently under consideration in Congress, I’m happy to tell you that I’ve scheduled another telephone town hall meeting on this Wednesday, August 5, 2009, at 7:30 p.m. PDT. I hope you’ll join me for a broad discussion of health issues at that time. As before, this forum will give you a chance to share your thoughts and ideas, as well as get an update on what Congress is doing to help solve the cost and coverage problems that afflict the American health care system – all from the comfort of your home. To participate, dial 1-(877) 269-7289 and enter the conference number 13634. If you can’t make this call, rest assured that I plan to hold more telephone town halls in the future. In the mean time, you can listen to a recording of last week’s health town hall meeting here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=428W7_aMCVA. As always, please feel free to contact me about the issues that concern you. I encourage you to contact me via my web e-mail page at www.house.gov/inslee/contact/email.html, telephone at 1-800-422-5521, or fax at 202-226-1606, because security measures continue to cause House offices to experience delays in receiving postal mail. Please be sure to include your full name and address, including your zip code, in your message. If you are interested in receiving emails similar to this in the future, as well as legislative updates, please respond to this email with “subscribe” as the subject. |
