Become an Election Observer

Posted by Lady Liberty

From Mino at PSCU:

We’ve witnessed the failure of this system firsthand here in Washington State in the 2004 governor’s race and other close elections. Our Secretary of State continues to fight the Freedom Foundation’s attempts to make voter rolls more secure and in so doing has allowed underage and felon voters to cast their ballots in past elections. We’ve even heard a story about a breakdown in the election system in Minnesota as recent as yesterday (FOX News – Felons Voting Illegally May Have Put Franken Over the Top in Minnesota, Study Finds).

Even in the best of situations, citizens have the right and responsibility to ensure that elections are conducted with integrity. Ronald Reagan said it best, “Trust, but verify.” The way that you and I can verify is by volunteering to serve as election observers for both the Primary and General elections that are coming up in August and November.

We have put together an Election Observer Resource Page at www.EFFCAN.org. If you go there, you will find:

* The contact information for each County Auditor
* Any currently scheduled Election Observer trainings (conducted by County Auditors)
* Links to Freedom Foundation election materials
* A link to the state’s Observer’s Guide for Washington State Elections

We can only guarantee a fair election if we are willing to work to make it happen. Please consider serving as an election observer during the Primary in August and the General election in November.
