Learning about the Constitution
Yesterday, Hillsdale College presented a ‘webinar’ on ‘Reviving the Constitution’. Thirty two thousand people signed up! Needless to say, there were some computer problems and I couldn’t log in for the first hour or so. During the lunch break, a video of Mark Steyn’s “Live Free or Die” was presented. It was excellent! I couldn’t find a link for it, so here it is in writing. Not as good as the video because you miss a lot of Steyn’s mannerisms (British accent) and humor.
Other learning opportunities:
- The National Center for Constitutional Studies presents a series of videos on the Principles of Liberty.
- Judge Napolitano presents a series of videos about the Constitution and freedom.

The Ant and the Grasshopper
OLD VERSION
The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter.
The grasshopper thinks the ant is a fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away.
Come winter, the ant is warm and well fed.
The grasshopper has no food or shelter, so he dies out in the cold..

Portland Votes for Higher Income Tax
Portland voted for a higher income tax on Tuesday, January 26th. I heard Portland talk show host Lars Larson say on the Dori Monson show that there are 3M adults in Oregon. Out of that, 10% are employed by the government with another 15% on a government pension. 20% are on food stamps or state assistance. Oregon has the 2nd highest tax rate in the WORLD with Denmark being 1st. Larson suspects that Oregon has reached the tipping point and may be the bellwether for the rest of the nation.
Government taxes cigarettes to discourage smoking, casinos to discourage gambling, liquor to discourage drinking and now small business to discourage employment. He concluded with ‘government kills its host’. How simple! How succinct! Read more »
