Tax Cuts: An analogy

This is from Jeanie who credits Katlyn in Seattle:

Let’s put tax cuts in terms everyone can understand. Suppose that every day, ten men go out for dinner. The bill for all ten comes to $100. If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this: The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing.

The fifth would pay $1.

The sixth would pay $3.

The seventh $7.

The eighth $12.

The ninth $18.

The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59.

So, that’s what they decided to do.

The ten men ate dinner in the restaurant every day and seemed quite happy with the arrangement, until one day, the owner threw them a curve. Read more »

Wrong Court Ruled on Arizona Law

Posted by Lady Liberty

While attending Evergreen Freedom Foundation’s  workshop on ‘Why Federalism Works’, the instructor said that according to the Constitution,  any lawsuit involving a State and the Federal Government will be heard by the Supreme Court. He added that the lawsuit brought by numerous States against the Federal Government regarding Obamacare will be the jurisdiction of the Supreme Court.  I wondered if this is how the lawsuit filed against Arizona by the Federal Government will proceed.  Ava sent me this interesting update:

In a stunning development that could potentially send the nation into a Constitutional crisis, an astute attorney who is well-versed in Constitutional law states that the ruling against the State of Arizona by Judge Susan Bolton concerning its new immigration law is illegal.

The attorney in question submitted her assertion in a special article in the Canada Free Press.  Her argument states in part, “Does anyone read the U.S. Constitution these days? American lawyers do not read it. Federal Judge Susan R. Bolton apparently has never read it. Same goes for our illustrious Attorney General Eric Holder.  Read more…

Updated: Will military ballots be counted in WA state?

Posted by Lady Liberty

I contacted the Secretary of State and here are the details. Washington allows for a 52-day time frame (total transit time of 52 days)  rather than the Move Acts 45-day rule (mail ballots to military and oversea voters at least 45 days before Election Day). Overseas voters have 21 days after the election to have their ballot reach its destination.  I am relieved!

Steam is coming out of my ears as I just read a post from Hotair.

Control of the House, and possibly the Senate, could come down to tough races in states like Wisconsin, Colorado, Washington, and Florida.  In close races, absentee and military ballots can play a large role in determining the winners.  However, some states may not get the ballots to military voters and their families in time to be counted despite the passage of legislation (called ‘The Move Act’)  that require states to have a 45-day window on ballot delivery.

According to Cron National News,

The Defense Department granted Delaware, New York, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Washington the waivers (from the Move Act).

States that won waivers provided “thorough and comprehensive plans to protect the voting opportunities for military and overseas voters,” Bob Carey, director of the Federal Voting Assistance Program, said in a statement.

Liberty Belle wrote an article about this on American Thinker last July. Is this another sneaky way to defeat Rossi? I’m going to find out what the ‘thorough and comprehensive plans’ are! Stay tuned!

Passing on the legacy of the Second Amendment

Posted by Lady Liberty

Up until a couple of years ago, I didn’t understand Charlton Heston and thought he was a kook. Then a friend told me about gun control history, another about ‘gun free zones’,  and McDonald v Chicago showed how ineffective gun bans are.

“Delivered with unedited authenticity reflecting a deep love for his nation, Mr. Heston’s eloquent message radiates truth as it lights the American way.”
